I took a hot yoga class today and the motto of the class was "Detox before you Retox," I couldn't get over what a great motto that was. I strongly believe in the process of detoxing as long as you know what you are doing or are working along side a health care practitioner. Detoxing in my eyes is not to be used as a weight loss program (although, that tends to be one of the outcomes) but instead as a way to allow your body to rest and renew as well as ridding the body of toxins and excess hormones.
I plan to talk about different detoxification programs in later blogs since through my company I have helped other practitioners organize and carry out cleanses in their offices, but today I wanted to focus more on the yogi's motto.
What if we all took time each week to detox, whether it be during the hour of yoga class, a 45 minute infra-red sauna, a day long fast, or maybe just clearing your mind of negative thoughts? Or maybe it's what we decide not to do every week; such as skipping that second cup of coffee, not buying the farmed fish because it's cheaper, or not letting your co-worker get under your skin. Maybe just that moment of detoxing rather than partaking in a whole detox process could be enough to renew your body and prepare it for the next "retox."
If "happy thoughts" was all it took for Peter Pan to fly; then what if it was just as simple for us? Ok, maybe we wont be able to fly, but I guarantee that the more happy thoughts that we think and conscience moments that we take for ourselves the more we will feel better about our lives and our personal being.
I write this blog on the day that most of us will begin to partake in the majority of our "retox" in hopes that we can all take the time that we need to "detox before you retox," however works for you.
Pura Vida!

This is a great post!! Breath work is also a great way to detox...if we can spend a few minutes each day just renewing the breath, inhaling new, fresh, positive breath..exhaling, releasing tension, letting go of things that are no longer serving us, we will feel renewed. At least in that present moment (which is truly our only moment). :-)
